Enjoy a van tour of the native culture and history of the Alaskan people. Wrangell is the only community in Alaska to have been ruled by four nations, the Tlingit, Russian, British and United States. The community is rich in Alaska Native history. Your fully guided tour will give you a glimpse into the world of the Tlingit People.

Once a great nation, the Tlingit's territory spread from Dixon Entrance in the south, near the city of Ketchikan, to the small village of Yakutat, the northern most community on the Inside Passage. The territory that the Tlingits ruled is comparable to that of the country of Norway.

Enjoy a personalized tour of Wrangell's most popular attractions in the comfort of a 7-14 passenger van. This tour is fully narrated and gives you an orientation of the island and its attractions. Six sites are visited.

Petroglyph Beach, an Alaska State Historic Site. Wrangell's Petroglyph Beach Park is unique because of the number of petroglyphs at the site and the ease with which people can see them. These ancient rock carvings are estimated to be between 8,000 to 10,000 years old. Guests will be offered rice paper to make a petroglph rubbing from the replicas located on the observation deck.

Muskeg Meadows Golf Course is Southeast Alaska's only USGA Regulated Golf Course. It is located along Ishyama Drive. Visit the club house to purchase a unique Alaska souvenir. Sitka Black Tail Deer are often seen along this road.

Traditional Smoke Houses were used extensively by the Native people living along the Inside Passage. Guests will learn how the fish is prepared as well as what special wood is used to smoke this Alaskan delicacy. Smoking fish is a seasonal activity, live processing may not be included in the interpretation.

Chief Shakes Tribal House is unique because it is located on a beautiful island in the middle of Wrangell's Reliance Harbor. This is the site of the "Last Great Potlatch" of the local Tlingit people. The potlatch was held to celebrate the completion of the newly constructed Chief Shakes tribal house and the naming of the last Chief Shakes; "We Shakes". The history of the tribal house as well as a description of daily living and the type of tools that were used by early inhabitants will be shared at this time.

Commercial Smokery Tour will allow guest to see the modern equipment that is used to smoke salmon commercially. The owner/operator will explain how the fish is prepared for smoking and the many products that can be made from smoked fish.

Wrangell Museum's collection reflects Wrangell's colorful past. Tlingit house posts carved in the 1700's are thought to be the oldest known house posts still in existence today. A menagerie of Russian, English, Chinese and Japanese artifacts depicts Wrangell's colorful past. Trapping, Fishing and Forest industries, all major players in the development of Southeast Alaska, are represented in the collection, as is the community's character and charm with memorabilia from local business, families and individuals throughout this local museum.

Includes: Alaska Native Driver/Guide, 6 Great Sites with all entrance fees, beverages, & souvenir petroglyph rubbing. *Umbrellas are available for guests to use if it is raining.
